Planting Resources & Funding for Administrators

The National Fish and Wildlife Foundation’s Small Watershed Grants fund community based projects that protect and restore natural resources of the Chesapeake Bay area. Planting trees at a large scale across all PGCPS schools has the opportunity to result in measurable improvements to the streams located adjacent to schools.

How much can be awarded:

Implementation grants range from $75,000 – 500,000

The Chesapeake Bay Trust Urban Trees Grant Program will regularly award local organizations and government entities to continue the state of Maryland’s effort to plant 5 million trees by 2031. This is a great opportunity to plant trees at a large scale.

For example, in the first round of grant funding, Prince George’s County itself was awarded $300,000 to plant 2,000 trees on public and private lands in underserved communities.

The Prince George’s County School System, serving many underserved students and communities, would qualify to apply for this grant for a large-scale, school-system wide planting.

How much can be awarded:

  • Up to $15,000 for projects serving a single small neighborhood (on the order of 25 to 100 trees)
  • Up to $45,000 for projects serving multiple neighborhoods within a community (on the order of 75 to 300 trees)
  • Up to $200,000 for projects serving multiple communities (on the order of 300 to 1,000 trees)
  • Up to $1,000,000 for projects serving communities across an entire county-scale (on the order of 2,000 to 6,000 trees)
